Audition Anxiety Tips That Actually Work
Body-first ways to manage audition anxiety - physiology, reframes, and the routines that get you through the door.
Published October 8, 2025
Anxiety is the body getting ready. Don't fight it - redirect it.
Suppressed anxiety performs worse than channeled anxiety. The work is the channel.
The work, step by step
- Long exhale, short inhale. Six-count exhale, four-count inhale. Three rounds. Drops heart rate.
- Move before you sit. Walk, jump, shake. Burn the adrenaline.
- Plant your feet. Pre-scene, hip-width stance, even weight. Body uses ground contact for regulation.
- Reframe the energy. "I am excited" beats "I am anxious". Identical physiology.
- Have a pre-tape ritual. Same warm-up, same breath, same scene. Familiarity reduces threat response.
Common pitfalls
- Caffeine before auditions.
- Telling the room you're nervous.
- Performing relaxation.
