A complete self-tape kit using just an iPhone - apps, settings, mounting, lighting, and audio.

A modern iPhone shoots self-tape work casting will accept. The bottleneck isn’t the camera; it’s the setup.
Actors with phones in their pocket and no idea how to use them lose tapes to actors with a $300 setup.
The work, step by step
- Use the rear camera. Better sensor than front. Use a small mirror or Apple Watch as a preview.
- Lock exposure and focus. Tap and hold to lock AE/AF. Stops the camera from chasing skin tones.
- 1080p / 30fps. 4K is overkill and chews storage. Submit 1080p in most cases.
- Mount on a tripod. Phone tripods cost $20. Hand-held is non-negotiably amateur.
- Wired lav. Lightning or USB-C lav clipped just below frame. iPhones with no headphone jack need a $15 adapter.
Common pitfalls
- Filming with screen brightness too low - affects your face.
- Forgetting to disable Auto-Exposure.
- Recording vertical for a horizontal portal.
How Actry fits in
Actry runs natively on iPhone. The self-tape camera mode is built around the iPhone’s strengths - no extra app required.
